Second Roxbury Library Silent Auction

The Roxbury Library Association welcomes the public to the RLA’s Second Silent Auction on Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., during the July 2017 Roxbury Summer Festival. The 2017 RLA Silent Auction will feature gift certificates, antiques, collectibles, framed photographs, framed paintings and drawings, furniture, wine and edibles, handcrafted quilts, and vintage items, generously donated by local individuals and area businesses. The silent auction bidding period on July 1st will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with the bidding results announcements scheduled for 2:00 p.m. . Roxbury Library patrons and visitors may register for the 2017 RLA Silent Auction at the Roxbury Library circulation desk prior to the auction or on the July 1st auction day.

The preview week for the 2017 RLA Silent Auction will be on Monday, June 26th; on Wednesday, June 28th; and on Thursday, June 29th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Roxbury Library.

On the day of the July 2017 Roxbury Summer Festival, the RLA invites all library patrons and visitors to take advantage of special and regular RLA Thrift Shoppe sales and of the opportunities to purchase raffle tickets for the 2017 RLA queen-size “Sunflower Splendor” Quilt, expertly handcrafted by the Roxbury Library Quilters, and Irma Mae Griffin’s HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF ROXBURY.

June 2017 RLA Tuesday Forum Event

LUNCHEON BUFFET AT THE OTESAGA RESORT HOTEL FOR JUNE 2017 RLA TUESDAY FORUM GATHERING

The Roxbury Library Association will close the 2016-2017 RLA Tuesday Forum season with a buffet luncheon at the Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, New York, on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. RLA Tuesday Forum Coordinator Julia A. Menne cordially requests that all buffet luncheon attendees meet in the Roxbury Library parking lot at 10:15 a.m. on June 13th for carpool transport to Cooperstown.

For the Tuesday, March 28, 2017, Roxbury Library Association Tuesday Forum Program, at 1:00 p.m., at the Roxbury Library, Manhattan Country School Farm Program Coordinator and Farm Teacher Catherine Cammer will offer a slide presentation on Manhattan Country School Farm, with Manhattan Country School Farm 7th graders reflecting on their experiences at the farm.

Spring 2017 New York Humanities Roxbury Library Association Reading and Discussion Program

The recipient of a Spring 2017 New York Humanities Reading and Discussion Grant, the Roxbury Library Association takes pleasure in announcing the topic of “Growing and Aging” for the RLA March-April 2017 NYH Reading and Discussion Program. To take place at the Roxbury Library on 6 Thursday evenings, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., the program sessions will occur on March 16th, March 23rd, March 30th, April 6th, April 13th, and April 20th. The scholar-facilitator for the RLA Spring 2017 NYH Reading and Discussion Program is art therapist and Roxbury resident Ellen Stewart.

The schedule of readings for the Spring 2017 NYH R & D Program follows:

  • March 16th-Introductory/Orientation Session: selected readings from A HISTORY OF OLD AGE, Ed. Pat Thane.
  • March 23rd-TINKERS by Paul Harding.
  • March 30th-Selected Readings from A HISTORY OF OLD AGE, Ed. Pat Thane, with individual participants’ presentations on selected readings.
  • April 6th-Selected Readings from LITERATURE AND AGING: AN ANTHOLOGY, Eds. Martin Kohn, et al., with individual participants’ presentations on selected readings.
  • April 13th-Selected Readings from LITERATURE AND AGING: AN ANTHOLOGY, Eds. Martin Kohn, et al., with individual participants’ presentations on selected readings.
  • April 20th-Selected Readings from IN OUR PRIME: THE INVENTION OF MIDDLE AGE by Patricia Cohen, with individual participants’ presentations on selected readings, and concluding remarks.

Program readings are available at the Roxbury Library or through the Four County Library System (4CLS).

February 2017 Roxbury Library Association Tuesday Forum Program

For the Tuesday, February 7, 2017, Roxbury Library Association Tuesday Forum Program, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Roxbury Library, New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Grant artist Bertha Rogers will offer a combined reading and book creation workshop, based on the artist’s 2016 NYSCA Decentralization Grant project “The Wild Ones: Creatures of the Catskills.” Following Ms. Rogers’ February 7th interdisciplinary reading and workshop, the RLA will offer a miniature exhibit of Ms. Rogers’ 2016 interdisciplinary installation “The Wild Ones: Creatures of the Catskills” in the Roxbury Library, from Wednesday, February 8, 2017, through Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

Regular RLA Tuesday Forum attendees will provide refreshments following Ms. Rogers’ reading and workshop.

2016 Roxbury Library Assocation Annual Holiday Bazaar

On Saturday, December 3, 2016, from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., the Roxbury Library Association will hold its Annual Holiday Bazaar at the Roxbury Library. The RLA Annual Holiday Bazaar will offer holiday shoppers the opportunity to purchase delicious bake sale items and quality RLA Thrift Shoppe merchandise, Irma Mae Griffin’s HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF ROXBURY, and 2016 RLA “Happy” Quilt raffle tickets at $1.00 per ticket
or at $5.00 for 6 tickets.

Santa will be visiting the Roxbury Library from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon with holiday gifts for the children of Roxbury and neighboring communities.

The RLA quilt raffle drawing for the 2016 RLA “Happy” Quilt, expertly handcrafted by the Roxbury Library Quilters, will take place at 1:30 p.m., directly following the 2016 RLA Annual Holiday Bazaar.
