About the Roxbury Library
October 31st, 2012 by admin | Filed under About Us.Currently serving a population of 2,509, the Roxbury Library is a source of lifetime learning and a valued community center for Roxbury and neighboring communities, including Grand Gorge, Halcottsville, and Denver. A not-for-profit library organization, the Roxbury Library Association, Roxbury Library’s parent
institution, offers library patrons the opportunity to borrow from an extensive collection of books, periodicals, videocassettes, and audiotapes. The newly renovated, redesigned, and archivally reorganized Irma Mae Griffin History Room provides library patrons and visitors with the opportunity to conduct historical or genealogical research and to view the historic local newspaper THE ROXBURY TIMES on microfilm, with printer capacity. In addition to hosting annual programs and events for children and adults, the library makes a copy machine, a fax machine, a laser printer, four computer stations, and a Thrift Shoppe available to the public.
The dedication and the expertise of the Roxbury Library Quilters, who meet at the library every Monday morning to handcraft an annual queen-sized quilt for library fundraising, enable the Roxbury Library Association to offer library patrons and visitors the opportunity to participate in a yearly quilt raffle, held after the library’s Annual Holiday Bazaar on the first Saturday of December.
Sustained by LLSA, local, and state funding and by individual grants from local and state organizations and foundations, the Roxbury Library Association primarily derives its income from annual fundraising efforts, including book sales; Thrift Shppe sales,; fees for use of the library’s copier, fax machine, and laser printer; and sales of the softcover version of Irma Mae Griffin’s HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF ROXBURY.
Annual library membership dues are $8.50 for Roxbury Central School District individuals, $20.00 for Roxbury Central School District families, and $25.00 for individuals and families residing outside of the Roxbury Central School District.
In addition to receiving annual dues from local and area patrons, the Roxbury Library Association is the grateful beneficiary of individual and family contributions to the Roxbury Library’s operating expenses and of clothing, houseware, and book donations to the Roxbury Library thrift Shoppe.
The Roxbury Library Association provides the Roxbury Library Director with an annual book acquisition budget of $2,500 for adult fiction and nonfiction and of $500 for juvenile fiction and nonfiction. From January 2005 through March 2016, the Roxbury Library Association spent $25,007 on recently published and widely acclaimed fiction and nonfiction titles for adults, adolescents, and children. The many fine donations of hardcovers and softcovers from library patrons and visitors also enrich the Roxbury Library’s steadily growing collection.
As a member of the Four County Library System, the Roxbury Library Association enables Roxbury Library patrons to acquire interlibrary loan books, videocassettes, audiotapes, and audiocassettes from within and without the Four County Library System.
